Why We Choose Grass-Fed Beef
Several studies have shown that grass-fed beef is:
1. High in healthy Omega-3 fatty acids
2. High in Conjugated Linoleic Acid
3. High in antioxidant vitamins such as A and E
That’s all fine and dandy, but why does that matter?
According to Healthline, Webmd, Joseph Mercola and dozens more, healthy forms of Omega-3 are beneficial to our bodies in many positive ways. Healthy amounts of Omega-3 have been linked to lower depression and anxiety rates, better overall eye and brain health, decreased risk of heart disease, dementia, and arthritis. Our bodies cannot make Omega-3’s so it is important to incorporate them into our diets via the foods we choose to eat.
Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) is believed to aid in protecting your body against cancer as well as preventing unhealthy types of weight gain.
Vitamin E is an important antioxidant that prevents the oxidation of cells in our bodies. Vitamin A is an essential nutrient significant for proper eye health, growth, immunity, cell division, etc… Each of these health benefits also fight against developing cancer.
In addition to the measurable nutritional superiority when comparing grass-fed beef to other options, it is important to think about the way the cow was raised and how that is directly connected to the higher levels of naturally occurring nutrition provided in their meat. A grass-fed cow is being fed a diet natural to herbivores – grass! Science has clearly demonstrated that animals that are grown in their natural environments, at natural paces, and with their natural food source are healthier. They pass on that health via their meat to consumers.
In addition to healthier and happier animals, grass-fed livestock contribute positively to the environment. When managed properly, animals are rotated to have access to fresh grass, but also to ‘trample’ and disturb the land and stimulate growth of new grass which will in turn capture carbon dioxide and put it back into the soil - naturally. The nutrients that these gals poop out also plays a vital role in building a healthier soil profile.
At our farm, our animals are moved often to facilitate environmental stewardship that compliments a healthier animal as well.
